the most beautiful maps

omg these maps of the Mississippi River flood plains are amazing! Charting the flooding of the river from southern Illinois to southern Louisiana, the fifteen maps in this series were made by Harold Fisk as part of a report for the Army Corps of Engineers in 1944. So cool how a seemingly mundane and technical undertaking (apparently the rest of the report was very boring) can yield something so organically beautiful and artistic.
